OSHA and Red Cross Safety Alliance in Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA - The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Red Cross's Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter renewed a workplace safety and health alliance today at a signing ceremony during a safety and health seminar for area businesses. OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative programs. OSHA currently has more than 450 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
"This renewed alliance will allow us to further the work we started two years ago, which is designed to help area businesses ensure that their employees stay safe and healthy on the job," said Al D'Imperio, director of OSHA's Philadelphia Area Office. "We look forward to continuing this successful effort."
Through the alliance, OSHA and the American Red Cross will work together to provide local businesses with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. The original alliance, begun in May 2005, is being renewed for two more years. Commenting on the American Red Cross' longtime emphasis on job safety, Tom Foley, chief executive officer of the organization's Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, said, "The Red Cross trains employees to handle emergencies in the workplace at 1,330 different business locations in the five-county region. As a result of numerous stories that show how our combined efforts are saving lives on the job, we're pleased to renew this alliance with OSHA."
